For the impacted Windows Insiders, Microsoft has proposed a workaround that consists in opening the Task Manager (via the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Del) and running a new task from the File menu to launch the cmd.exe command prompt (by typing cmd in the input field).
A problem on the server side and not via Windows Update
Without going into details, Microsoft said the problem was related to a server-side deployment that was sent to Insiders before being canceled. According to the developer Daniel Aleksandersen, it was the deployment of a promotional message about the integration of Microsoft Teams in Windows 11 that caused the bug.
In a blog post, he points to a small file uploaded by IrisService, pointing out that Iris is part of Windows Spotlight for displaying the Bing background of the day, tips, promotions and suggestions on the lock screen. And so in this case an advertisement for Microsoft Teams.
