In a few days, Apple is expected to unveil a new Mac mini, a MacBook Pro, and an Apple M4-based iMac, as well as several other products. Invitations to the event could go out as early as tomorrow. Here's a summary of the innovations that can be expected.
Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman, who has often provided correct information about unreleased Apple products in advance over the past few years, has learned that Apple will be holding a hands-on event for new products in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 30.
Since this event is intended to give the press the opportunity to try out new products, these should naturally be available by then. This indicates a launch on October 30, although an announcement the day before is also conceivable. According to Mark Gurman, Apple will announce the new Macs in a livestream and publish press releases at the same time. The following product announcements are expected at the launch event:
14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro (Apple M4 / M4 Pro / M4 Max)
24-inch iMac (Apple M4)
Mac mini (Apple M4 / M4 Pro)
Other than new processors, the MacBook Pro and iMac are not expected to see any major changes. On the other hand, the Mac mini is rumoured to have a new design with a smaller case and a USB-C port on the front, but no USB-A port at all. Most importantly, new Mac accessories are expected to get a USB-C port upgrade. As our benchmarks (embedded below) show, the passively cooled CPU in the Apple M4 in the iPad Pro is much faster than the Apple M3 Pro, so Mac customers can expect a significant upgrade.
