Samsung and OpenAI are in talks to form a partnership and potentially integrate ChatGPT into Samsung's Galaxy AI service, according to The Information.
As of now, Samsung uses its own LLM and Google's Gemini AI to power its Galaxy AI features. It will be interesting to see how ChatGPT fits into all of this.
For example, Apple uses OpenAI's ChatGPT for its own Apple Intelligence, but only when the models on the device are insufficient for the task at hand. At that point, the system turns to ChatGPT for help.
We could see a similar implementation in Galaxy AI or use ChatGPT's service altogether. The report says the two companies are in the early stages of negotiations, so it's early to speculate.
With the release of its search service, OpenAI has become increasingly competitive with Google, and now it is trying to snatch up long-time Google partners like Samsung. The same report also says that OpenAI is even working on a browser powered by ChatGPT. The company has already hired developers who have worked on Chrome.
